Is Your Culture Change Taking Root?

How can you tell if you culture change initiative is actually driving new behaviors?  And how can you determine the business value of those changes?  You can do an assessment.

Once you have defined the behaviors associated with each of your organizational values, you can ask your employees if they are experiencing these behaviors in their day-to-day interactions.  You can also ask how important these behaviors are to creating a great work environment.  Here is an example of this type of survey.

Value:  Innovation – Finding New Ways and New Opportunities

 

How frequently do you experience this behavior in the organization?

How important is this behavior in a great place to work?

  1. Never
  2. Occasionally
  3. Frequently
  4. Daily

How important is this behavior in a great place to work?

  1. Not at all important
  2. Somewhat important
  3. Important
  4. Very important

This type of tool will give you a baseline of where the organization is currently and it will also let you track progress if you use the assessment two or three times a year.

The other variables you need to measure are the identified business outcomes of your culture change.  Are you looking to increase customer satisfaction?  You may want to consider tracking a net promoter score.  Is one of your goals to improve efficiency?  Look for ways to measure increased productivity or to reduced cost.
